Household Waste Removal | Absolute Environmental Solutions

Household waste removal means someone comes to your home, lifts and loads your rubbish, and takes it away in one visit. There is no skip to fill, nothing standing on your drive, and no permit to worry about. You point at what needs to go and it goes.

Two workers in plain workwear carrying an old wooden wardrobe into the back of a plain white van outside a terraced house, with bagged waste and a rolled carpet waiting on the pavement.

What household waste removal is

It is the right choice for a single load: an old wardrobe and a mattress, a shed full of junk, bags of garden waste, or the contents of a loft or garage. It is also the sensible option if you cannot do the lifting yourself, because the crew carry everything out, including from upstairs.

The difference from skip hire is simple. With a skip, a container sits on your drive for a week or two and you load it at your own pace. With waste removal, a crew arrives at a booked time, loads it all and leaves with it. If your project will produce waste steadily over several days, household skip hire is usually the better value.

How we arrange it

Absolute Environmental Solutions is a waste management company. We appoint a licensed, vetted local contractor to carry out the collection, and then manage the job for you: agreeing the price, booking the slot, briefing the crew on access and parking, and making sure the paperwork comes back to you afterwards.

That means you are not ringing round unknown numbers and hoping for the best. You deal with us, and we are accountable for the contractor who turns up.

What can be taken away

  • Furniture: wardrobes, beds, tables, chests of drawers, garden furniture.
  • Appliances: cookers, washing machines, dishwashers. Fridges and freezers can be taken, but they go down a separate route because the gas has to be removed first.
  • Garden waste: hedge cuttings, turf, branches, old fence panels, pots and rubble.
  • House clearance items: general bagged rubbish, carpets, boxes, bikes, loft and garage clutter.
  • Soft furnishings: mattresses and carpet, usually at an extra charge because of how they must be handled.

A few things need a specialist and cannot simply be loaded onto a van: asbestos, paint and other liquids, gas cylinders, tyres and car batteries. Mention anything like that when you enquire and we will arrange the right route for it.

Sofas, armchairs and the POPs rules

Upholstered seating is the one item people are most often caught out by. Sofas, armchairs, recliners, sofa beds, footstools, beanbags and upholstered dining chairs usually contain fire-retardant chemicals known as POPs. Because of that, the rules require them to be kept separate from all other waste and destroyed by incineration. They cannot be reused, recycled or landfilled, however good the sofa still looks.

In practice a sofa travels separately and costs more to dispose of than a wardrobe of the same size. We will tell you that up front rather than add it on later.

What it costs

Prices vary, because every load is different. The cost comes down to how much there is, how heavy it is, how far it has to be carried, whether there is anywhere to park, and whether anything needs its own disposal route. Send us a photo or a quick list and we will come back with a price for the whole job.

Where it goes, and why that protects you

The load is taken to a permitted waste transfer station. There it is tipped and sorted so that timber, metal, card and rubble can go for recycling, with the rest going for energy recovery or disposal. Upholstered seating goes straight for incineration.

This matters to you for a reason that catches a lot of people out. As a householder you have a legal duty of care for your own waste. If you hand it to someone unregistered and it ends up fly-tipped in a lane, the council can trace it back to you and fine you, even though you paid in good faith. The protection is simple: ask for the collector's waste carrier registration number, check it on the Environment Agency public register, and keep the transfer note showing who took your waste and where it went.

We are a registered waste broker and dealer with the Environment Agency, registration CBDU309472. We appoint a licensed carrier, we make sure the waste reaches a permitted facility, and we send you the paperwork that proves it.

Waste Removal — common questions

It depends on how your waste appears. If you will be producing it steadily over a week, a skip you load yourself usually works out cheaper per load. If it is all sitting there now and you want it gone in one go, removal is often better value, because you are not paying for a container to stand on your drive or for a road permit. Send us a list and we will tell you honestly which one suits your job.

Yes. That is the main reason people choose removal over a skip. The crew will carry items out of the house, including from upstairs, a loft, a garage or a back garden, as long as there is a safe route. Let us know in advance if anything is very heavy, very large or behind a narrow stairway, so the right crew and vehicle are sent.

Both can be taken, but each needs its own route. Fridges and freezers have to have the gas removed at a licensed facility, so they travel separately. Sofas, armchairs and other upholstered seating must be kept apart from other waste and incinerated under the POPs rules, so they cost more to dispose of. Tell us up front and the quote will reflect it.

Because the collection is carried out by a licensed waste carrier and the waste goes to a permitted site, and you get the transfer note proving it. This matters: as a householder you have a legal duty of care for your waste, and if an unregistered collector dumps it you can be fined even though you paid someone to take it. Always ask for a carrier registration number and check it on the Environment Agency public register.

We will tell you the earliest realistic slot when you enquire, and for a straightforward load that is often quick. We would rather give you a date we can hold than a promise we cannot. Larger or awkward jobs may need a short survey or a photo first so the price is fixed before anyone sets off.

It is easier if you or someone else is there, so the crew can confirm exactly what is going and you can sign the paperwork. If that is not possible we can usually arrange an alternative, for example a driveway or garage collection with everything left ready and the details agreed in advance.
